Travel Edge is attempting to raise awareness regarding the impact of plastic in the world’s oceans. To that note, it’s sponsoring the S/V TravelEdge, a 70-foot expedition sailing vessel and floating research lab, departing October 7, 2019, and manned by an all-female crew.
The mission will be led by eXXpedition, a non-profit group focusing on marine pollution. The two-year, 38,000-nautical mile journey is a means to bring women together from different countries and disciplines to find samples, get an idea of the current state of the seas and figure out where the bulk of the plastic is coming from, with a focus on finding ways to take on the crisis. The S/V TravelEdge received its name as part of a Gold+ Level package of support from TravelEdge for this mission.
The group, which includes scientists, teachers, filmmakers, product designers, photographers and athletes, will travel to areas where plastic is known to accumulate, including the Arctic, the Galapagos Islands, the South Pacific islands and central ocean areas.
